Muscular Strength & Endurance Tests

Testing muscular strength must ensure that the muscles being tested are appropriate and are going to be used throughout a relevant range of motion. Dynamometers are frequently used in laboratory settings to assess muscular strength, but free weights and exercise machines may also be used.

Muscular endurance tests may be used to either assess dynamic muscular endurance (being able to repeat contractions) or static muscular endurance (being able to sustain a muscular contraction). Although it would be ideal if the test used the appropriate muscle groups of the specific sport, it is not always feasible, and often a standard endurance exercise may be used instead, such as a sit-up. And in order to ensure the test is standardised, the Abdominal Curl Conditioning Test is frequently used.
